ABOUT WHY CAMP ADVOCACY EXPERIENCE CASES

Experience

I have been privileged to develop my advocacy skills working alongside (and against) some of Canada’s leading litigators on a wide variety of sophisticated litigation, including high-profile capital markets and professional liability litigation; very often proceeding in real-time. Before launching my own practice, I was:

a summer intern at May Jensen Shawa Solomon LLP (now JSS Barristers)
in Calgary where I worked on litigation
arising from the collapse Enron, a First Nations band leadership dispute, and
a helicopter crash;

seconded to the OSC for nine months
as an articling student to assist on the
trial of one of the largest quasi-criminal prosecutions for insider trading and misleading disclosure in Canadian history;

an associate at Gowlings LLP where, amongst other things, I represented:

institutional investors in support of a corporate transaction which proceeded despite: (i) Staff’s attempt to have the OSC cease trade it; and (ii) the objections of activist institutional investors’ at the fairness hearing;

creditors of a public company and its receiver in a class action to recover almost a billion dollars from its auditor which, amongst other things, failed to detect a fraud perpetrated by an officer and director; and

a telecommunications company in a series of urgent injunction applications against its fiercest competitor over misleading advertising;

acted for an income fund, its trustees and the fund’s captive company in an urgent application alleging oppression, breach of trust and breach of fiduciary duty;

was part of the team which negotiated a stay of proceedings for over 60 lawyers made third parties to a certified class action by a defendant law firm alleged to have acted negligently and in a conflict of interest.

I have successfully argued cases before
all levels of court in Ontario, the British Columbia Supreme Court and many administrative tribunals (including the
OSC, IIROC, MFDA and the Licence
Appeal Tribunal.) I have also acted in domestic and international arbitrations.
